OUR PROJECT

The coral reef laboratory and nursery

In line with the Wave of Change movement, the Iberostar Selection Bávaro Suites resort hosts a coral reef laboratory and nursery since 2019.

This place allows guests to connect with the local marine ecosystem, learning about the importance of coral reefs and the work that Iberostar carries out together with the scientific community to maintain the diversity of local coral.

Iberostar has created the first coral laboratory in Playa Bávaro to study the resilience of these colonial animals in the face of climate change, and find the most resilient coral species and individuals.

WAVE OF CHANGE

Another important pillar of the sustainability effort is the gastronomy and providing customers a responsible selection of seafood. The exclusive buffet-style restaurant El Faro with haute cuisine is certified to the MSC/ASC Chain of Custody Standard, positioning Iberostar, with Coral Level at Iberostar Selection Bávaro Suites, as the first certified hotel chain in Southern Europe, the Dominican Republic and Mexico.

Coral Level at Iberostar Selection Bávaro Suites also implements all of the hotel group's worldwide concepts such as single-use-plastic free, 3R teams (reduce-reuse-recycle), Honest Food and Aliveness.
